Download a New Application
If where you are right now, in life, is not where you desire to be then now is the time to download a new application to improve your situation. Think about it; in the world that we live in, the survival of anyone and anything relies on its ability to introduce a successful change or its ability to adapt to the changes around them. But we know that if it could all be so simple then everyone would be able to thrive, right?
I can admit to being reluctant to change, in the past, without even giving consideration to how change can be a good thing; but realizing that adapting to effective change actually makes life smoother if I stopped resisting is also something that I can confess to as well. Sometimes you just need to get with the program or download a new application. In fact, oftentimes we need some sort of selling point, or benefit, before we agree to something new.
Let me tell you a quick story about how me being open for change, well, changed my mind on something.
For many years I was a user of an “Android” phone — this was when smartphones were on the rise. I even opted for a ‘droid over the, now defunct, “Blackberry” phone. Well one year, my son bought me an iPhone 13 Pro Max when they just hit the market. I had heard so much about the iPhone and it’s features but my android already had all of “the cool stuff” that I wanted. I had heard all of the “Team iPhone” debates and they still didn’t move me to switch so the phone sat in the box for weeks after I toyed with it when I first got it. I was cool operating on a platform that I was most comfortable with. Have you ever felt like that? Good, I’m glad I’m not the only one that has ever been there!
Now, let me tell you how it all ended for me.
One day as I was leaving out of the house I noticed the battery on my android phone was just about dead. I didn’t have time to wait for it to charge and I didn’t have a car charger, so I grabbed the brand-new iPhone out of the box and went about my day. I would fiddle with it in my spare time and in between meetings. Being an android phone user for so long I knew all of its features, by memory, and I added all of the apps that I thought I needed to the phone.
After toying with the iPhone that day without having access to what I was comfortable with — the android — I decided to make a choice. Both phones had cool features and some were better than others — it went both ways for both phones so it all boils down to preference. In this situation my preference was to not struggle for the day and to take the time to learn something new.
I could have either learned to use what I had by “downloading a new program” to get me through the day or I could have complained that I didn’t have what I needed and allow what I lacked to determine the course of my day. Believe it or not, many people allow what they lack to determine their LIFE, not just their day.
Reading and education can do some amazing things in our lives but what’s also amazing is what not reading and educating yourself won’t do. Yes, read that again! After we graduate — high school, college, you decide — we often pick and choose what we want to learn and what’s worse is that as we get older we tend to think that learning is for the younger generation or we just think we know it all and we can’t be told anything new.
We unconsciously download, into our psyche, the data from the applications that we download to our phone. Most of us can walk into our place of business any day of the week and someone can tell us all of the stats from last Sunday’s game, but their home life and other personal affairs lack the attention that it needs to make them a better person. I get it, that’s a personal choice — but that same person will complain about the status of their life.
Going to seminars to enrich our lives is more of an investment in yourself than going to a concert to watch someone who’s already winning at life win more. Reading self-help books will help us way more than reading and watching what’s happening in someone else’s life on the latest reality show. Financial literacy can afford us the ability to not have to “rob Peter to pay Paul” but we have to be willing to play the long game, if necessary.
Go ahead and download that new program that you know you need and take your life to a new level. Once you’re up, the things that held you back will not only be a memory to you; they should also serve as a source of inspiration to help you in the future or to help someone else get unstuck and find their drive. As long as you keep downloading new, effective programs you’ll be fine. If phones, homes, automobile and every other tangible thing can be improved then why can’t you be a better version of yourself?
Stop resisting and remember to be adaptable to change while being persistent in reaching your goals. By doing this simple act on a consistent basis you won’t have time to complain or get stuck where you are because you’ll be too busy getting results. Find your program and get with it.
